Automatic flight logging isn't detecting flights

Updated June 5, 2026

Automatic flight logging uses your device location to detect takeoff and landing and record your OOOI times. If it is not picking up flights, it is almost always a permissions or settings issue.

Check location permissions

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Go to Privacy & Security → Location Services.
  3. Make sure Location Services is on.
  4. Find KármánLogs in the list and set it to Always, with Precise Location on.

Automatic detection needs background location, so the "Always" setting matters. With "While Using" only, the app cannot detect a flight you did not have open.

Other things to check

  • Battery and Low Power Mode. Low Power Mode can limit background activity. If you rely on automatic logging, keep it off during flights.
  • The feature is enabled. Confirm automatic flight logging is switched on inside KármánLogs.
  • Give it the full flight. Detection works from your locations and times across the flight, so a very short hop may need a manual entry.

You can always log manually

Automatic logging is a convenience, not the only way. You can add any flight by hand in seconds, and the app still fills in night time, takeoffs, and landings.

If detection still is not working after checking the above, email support@karmanlogs.com and tell us your device and iOS version.
