Add an approach quickly
Updated June 5, 2026
Logging approaches in KármánLogs is built to be fast. Because the app already knows the runway you flew, adding an approach is a tap rather than a form to fill out.
Adding an approach
- Open the flight you want to add the approach to.
- Go to the approaches section.
- The runway you flew is already presented. Pick the approach type.
- Repeat for additional approaches if you flew more than one.
That is it. No retyping airport or runway details that the app already has.
What the FAA requires you to log
Under 14 CFR 61.51(g)(3), for each instrument approach you must record:
- The location (the airport), and
- The type of approach accomplished (for example ILS, RNAV (GPS), or VOR), and
- The name of the safety pilot, if one was required.
KármánLogs captures the location, the approach type, and the runway you flew, so the entry has what an inspector expects to see.
Why it matters
These are the approaches that count toward your instrument currency under 14 CFR 61.57(c), which requires at least six instrument approaches, plus holding procedures and intercepting and tracking courses, within the preceding six calendar months. An entry like "6 ILS approaches" with no locations does not meet the standard, each approach needs its location and type. Fast, accurate approach logging keeps those records correct without slowing down the rest of your entry.
